Many of pyramid shelters andshaped tarp shelters come with an optional Innernest which has full mosquito netting and a bathtub floor, effectively making them a tent when needed. With 81ft of floor space, youll have heaps of room for gear and stretching out while you sleep. It is simple to set up, using a trekking pole and a minimum of four stakes.
Currently, I have a grace duo in silnylon and am very torn if I should go for the cuben version or not on the duomid XL.

They do require some skill to pitch and are not as wind and snow resistant as Pyramid shelters but they work! Without the flooring, you can use your own footprint or floor tarp, but it wont protect as well from the elements. Otherwise you will be prompted again when opening a new browser window or new a tab. No matter how many, youll need storage space and vestibules work great for this. OTOH the DCF is definitely stronger and lighter with little stretch. Let me know what you decide. Sewing with silnylon is pretty challenging, so I paid the extra to have them do it for me. For a couple of hours we had 50mph winds, tons of rain and horizontal hail up to the size of quarters.
If you like to sleep out under the stars you can leave these shelters atthe bottom of your pack, greatly reducing the time to setup and breakdown camp and without the weight penalty of carrying an unused conventional tent.
You can leave the upper layer off and enjoy watching the stars, whilst staying protected from bugs. My Trail Co Pyramid 4 and Pyramid 4 Shelters (by founder of GoLite) are other options for pyramid shelters.

For wind and precipitation protection, the tarp and stuff sac are 15D silicon-coated nylon with a waterproof column of 5000mm. MLD SuperMid kept Don and I sheltered and dry from a freak and exceptionally violent Sierra storm at 11,000 feet. They are frequently use in Alaska and other place for winter trips. Tall interior bathtub flooring stops water seepage, and it has a waterproof index between 2000mm and 3000mm. Since it doesnt have the highest waterproof rating, its only suitable for light to slightly moderate rainfall, but nothing more.

Hi, know this is a few years old but looking at a MLD supermid for here in New Zealand, need it to be able to handle some serious wind (potentially 60mph+); do you think with all guy outs used it will be ok? Pitched low the provide good protection from wind and rain. This did wonders for extra bug protection.

My Solomid 2016 is in Cuben, but my DuoMid XL is in the more cost effective Pro Silnylon. It is designed to be pitched with onetrekking pole and the included pole jack, which is a simple four inch piece of aluminum tube.
And you are right sil is a lot more compact and easier to fold away and put in your pack. As a European (there is no such thing as UL backpacking, yet) its hard to understand the light equals costs thing there is in USA made tents.
