Some really unique features that include the lions mouth bunker at 17 green, water features that seemingly go to infinity(designers purposely made appearance of lakes to where it is difficult to tell where lakes begin or end), and the elevation change that was created to come into play on 7 of the holes (a rarity for the area). Additionally, due to manufacturing some hills by moving dirt, Calusa Pines also has the more interesting terrain. Lots of room off the tee but the course really bares its teeth on and around the greens. The fairways are generous and there are plenty of bail out areas in bunkers or pine needles. The elevation change comfortably accounts for a half club difference, and perhaps a full club for some players, so you'll want to adjust accordingly. The approach shot plays to a deep but narrow green with a bunker on the left that sits between the putting surface and the water. The green is likely one of the most difficult on the green with a swale on the left leading to a valley of sin and another large bunker right. Property was completely flat, the 16th tee is now the highest in the county. I suspect those bunkers rarely come into play. Very walkable course that is somewhat forgiving off the tee yet very challenging with approach shots and green complexes. Seminole is clearly the number one rated golf course but it is a worthy debate as to the second-best golf course in Florida. PV is a mean golf course with trouble 5 feet off of every fairway so this is a bit different, but no picnic to say the least. Aside from that, it is a collection of "good" holes that look beautiful, not "great" holes. I find the first hole to be one of the more difficult holes on the golf course, a par 4 of 421/389 with a long bunker on the left to an elevated green positioned on the left and a high, wide bunker fronting most of the green. Be forewarned this is a tough green. There is good variety in the length of the holes whether a par 3, 4 or 5. This is among the top 5 courses in the state with a huge demand on accuracy. One tries to drive as to the left side of the fairway for a slightly better view of the green and as close as possible to the bunker next to the water on the left to avoid a 200- yard shot into a very long, tiered green with hollows in it. The final one-shotter at Calusa Pines is the most memorable hole at the course with a green wrapped around the sides and back by water and an elevated tee that offers an inspiring view of the surrounding property.
